Cloudera today announced that more than 100 universities from around the world have joined the Cloudera Academic Partnership (CAP) programme. This is a 500 percent increase since its launch in April 2013.

In Asia, participating universities include the National University of Singapore,  Malaysia’s Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Vietnam’s University of Engineering and Technology, South Korea’s Yonsei University, and University of Technology Sydney.

As data is increasingly driving businesses, Cloudera expects a growth in demand for Hadoop-aware IT professionals who could extract value from big data in future. CAP thus aims to meet that demand by preparing university-level students majoring in the computer science and business analytics courses for careers in big data.

Professors and students affiliated with CAP programme institutions could download a wide selection of Cloudera’s supplementary training materials at no cost, and receive discounts on all Cloudera Certification exams. Professors also qualify for deep discounts on Cloudera University professional training that is delivered by Cloudera’s team of expert Hadoop instructors, and benefit from up-to-date classroom tools, instructor forums, dedicated program support, and the world’s largest Hadoop knowledge base.
