The CxO Five for Five is Disruptive Tech Asean’s (DTA) exclusive interview series where we ask Chief Executives around the ASEAN region to answer rapid-fire questions on everything technology-related.

In this series, we interview Cllement Tan Chee Seng, Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, RAMSSOL Group Berhad. Cllement became fascinated with the world of business at a young age. With his determination and dedication, in just four years after he graduated, RAMS Solutions was launched.

He has led the company to obtain multiple awards, namely 25 Most Promising Oracle Solutions Provider 2016, Top 10 Oracle Cloud Solutions Provider 2016, Top 25 HR Technology Solutions 2018 and Brand Leadership Award by The Brand Laurette 2020.

Cllement was also recently presented with the Malaysia Top 20 Young Entrepreneur award at the Malaysia Top Entrepreneur of the Year Awards organised by Asia Excellence Entrepreneur Federation, an international exchange platform that recognises and celebrates outstanding entrepreneurs. Here are his takes on our questions:

(Crystal Ball) – Top technology that you think will transform your business in the coming years?

Robotic because of automation. Everyone is looking forward to automation and minimising the workforce as much as possible in the company.

(Out to Pasture) – Technology that you think will phase out of your business?

Consultancies, because nowadays, salespeople are not needed to sell a car. For example, since you can get access to a lot of the information on the internet. Consultation for me used to be how to transform people’s business into a new business. But eventually, people become IT savvy and they can read a lot of information and do some research online.

(Chatter Box) – Best collaboration tool?

As of now, it is Tik Tok. Tik Tok takes collaboration across the world that got many people addicted to the platform, even my children. So, if they can influence my children, I think that is something very cool. It means that technology is something that people want to see, fun, attractive, thinking out of the box, and very creative.

(Be Safe) – Biggest cybersecurity concern?

Commonly, people talk about the breaching of data, just like what we have seen happen in the US, with Zoom as an example. Many people are concerned about cybersecurity but I’m not too worried about it because I know how it works so well. Especially if you have that concern, I think the top providers in the world have talked through it so well because they have a bunch of professionals and geniuses to think about that. Or even perhaps, they have hired hackers into their organisation to overcome that.

(When I Grow Up) – If you hadn’t gone into tech, what would you do instead?

Tech is something that I like but to me, my favourite has always been doing business. Regardless of any businesses or industries, as long as it’s business, I will like it. This is because I was born to be more of an entrepreneur. So, I love to gain success and also help others achieve success as well. So, perhaps maybe aside from tech, my next thing that I would like to do is help people gain success—perhaps doing private equity firms, where I can give some advice to help, especially the youngsters in the world, to materialise their dreams. This is how I grow as well because I have many mentors and a lot of people giving me opportunities to help me grow. So, this is my way to repay back to society to create more unicorn companies and develop more youngsters.
