The CxO Five for Five is Disruptive Tech Asean’s (DTA) exclusive interview series where we ask tech leaders around the ASEAN region to answer rapid-fire questions on everything technology-related.

This week, we interview Enoch Lau, Technical Lead of 6Biz GoKudos. The 6Biz Group, a Malaysian start-up, made waves when it launched GoKudos, the first locally developed all-in-one smart office platform. GoKudos enables businesses to automate their operational processes, thereby reducing redundancies and wastage in operations while increasing efficiency.

Enoch has over 13 years of experience in the IT industry, covering various roles in software development, technical sales and training. Here are his takes on our questions:

  1. (Crystal Ball) – Top technology that you think will transform your business in the coming years? Why?

Machine-learning. Data is the cornerstone of what we are building and for us, it means moving from a reactive mindset to a more predictive approach in all that we do — that would mean reaching a point where we can understand and anticipate issues, changes, and trends to tackle them early on or to put even more power into the hands of the user to manage things without human intervention.

  1. (Out to pasture) – Technology that you think you will phase out of your business? Why?

Old paradigms of doing things. In a modern world where things are changing so rapidly that we are getting computers to learn and adapt on their own, we can’t continue to bring in our old ways of thinking and “doing” tech — although it’s safe and comfortable to fall back to what we are used to, by doing so we limit the possibilities for even better things in the future.

  1. (Chatter Box) – Best collaboration tool? Why?

Slack. Besides offering a great way to communicate in different groups and contexts, the wealth of possibilities for integrating external tools is something we can’t get enough of, and also a model for what we want to achieve with our own platform.

  1. (Be Safe) – Biggest cybersecurity concern? Why?

Having good security processes and coverage. Keeping our data safe is more than just putting the right protection on it but also having the right structure to support it. Whether it’s having proper controls for access within the company or making sure that processes are followed — we want to make sure that everyone in the organisation is committed to putting our security at the forefront of what we do.

  1. (When I grow up) – If you hadn’t gone into tech – what would you do instead?

If I hadn’t gone into tech, I’d be a jazz pianist or a funk drummer, playing sets at cosy music houses and indie venues, while running a small cafe on the side.
