Malaysia To Gain Technology Transfer from Participation In World Endurance Championship
April 21, 2021 News

The Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), Perodua and Persona Energy Sdn. Bhd. will collaborate to facilitate technology transfer to the local vehicle and component development through participation in the 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC 2021).

The transfer of technology from the telematics, data benchmarking and other relevant areas of the race will be used in developing new capabilities within its value chain towards connected mobility.

Data obtained from endurance races provide insights for designs of both powertrain and components of future mobility technology. As the technology behind sensors, telemetry and data management in motorsports are also more advanced than production vehicles, the data captured would provide new dimensions for local development, at both OEM and supplier levels.

“The future of connected mobility relies not only on data on vehicle performance and durability, but also in data collection technology. Through this collaboration, we will see new dimensions from the technology utilised through this venture in the World Endurance Championship that can be applied in line with critical component development stated in the National Automotive Policy 2020”, said Dato’ Madani Sahari, MARii CEO.

“Perodua is happy to support ventures that add new add-on values and opportunities for the Malaysian industry. We see this as not just an innovative approach for technology development, but a step forward in creating new breeds of engineering talent through experience building and international exposure”, added Dato’ Madani.

Malaysia will also send 4 apprentice engineers to the 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship starting June this year, as part of the Technology Transfer Apprenticeship Programme (TTAP), a joint partnership between MARii and Persona Energy.
