Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) was invited to discuss ‘Advancing Big Data Applications in Trade’ at the recent Asia-Pacific Economic Corporation (APEC) Summit Conference held by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA). The main objective of the summit was to focus on enhancing greater understanding of the importance and trends in Big Data technologies as well as applications, especially in international trade.

MDEC’s Dr Karl was there to present Malaysia’s progress in Big Data Analytics. In an interview later, Dr Karl mentioned Malaysia is at the forefront of building the Big Data infrastructure in Asia. He added that we have one of the most comprehensive solutions addressing all aspects of the Big Data eco-system by working with various institutions throughout the world which are in collaboration with MDEC.

“Malaysia should be proud to have its very own Big Data Analytics office for the ASEAN region with the launch of the Asean Data Analytics eXchange (ADAX) office by this year end”. He added that no other country was offering this service to grow the big data initiative in the region. ADAX will be used as a HUB to connect users of BDA with the experts in the field. The office will come with state-of-the-art equipment and analytic features as a ‘sand box’ concept for users to apply and experiment with the business concepts while receiving expert advice on them.

Dr Karl gave a twenty minute presentation at the APEC conference on how Malaysia has been preparing to incorporate Big Data analytics throughout the nation. “We are also working in collaboration with other Asean countries by providing support and sharing resources and expertise” he said.

“Our initiatives were well received and the Taiwan government has expressed their interest in working together with MDEC and the ADAX initiative towards building their trade lines through BDA” he said.
