MARii and Melati Signs MoU to Enhance System Development and Big Data Analytics

The Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) and Melati Evergreen Sdn. Bhd. (Melati) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to further enhance the technologies and solutions developed by both parties in the mobility and transportation sectors.

In enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of data-driven solutions, the collaboration explores the applications of Big Data Analytics (BDA), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Internet of Things (IoT) in all mobility platforms (land, sea, and air).

“BDA, AI and IoT are core requirements in the nation’s agenda towards a data-driven, digital economy. Its applications expand beyond the automotive sector, and form the backbone in the realisation of connected mobility and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), in all modes of transportation, be it air, land or sea”, said Dato’ Madani Sahari, CEO MARii.

The partnership focuses on the deployment of BDA solutions to enable real-time data analytics of various factors affecting the respective modes of transportation such as traffic density, weather condition, and road defects to develop Smart Cities and ITS.

The diverse applications of BDA, AI, and IoT allows the integration of daily operations into a connected, cloud-based platform with a data-driven ecosystem that allows for faster and more accurate decision-making processes.

The availability of BDA, coupled with IoT and AI technologies paves the way to a secure and smart infrastructure management system which leverages on Industry 4.0 technologies such as sensors, cameras, and smart controls, enabling the implementation of an intelligence-based security network.

“Through this initiative, various operations in the mobility sector can be optimised through smart technologies to provide quick and effective solutions that are driven by meaningful data. These technologies can be further leveraged to create a secure and comfortable travelling ecosystem for passengers, especially during the post COVID-19 era when international travels begin to operate as usual.”, Dato’ Madani explained.

Other than enhancing security levels, the data obtained can also be used to improve the services offered by the mobility industry to stimulate participation from the public through providing personalised, on-demand services, especially in the duty-free retail sector which is a key platform for transactions in airports.

While spurring the adoption of digital solutions to boost engagement with the public in efforts to grow the sector post COVID-19, this MoU will also facilitate the tourism sector in overcoming technology investment anxiety.
