Qubole Introduces Its Qubole Data Service Big Data Platform for the AWS Mumbai Region

Qubole, the big data-as-a-service company, recently introduced a new service region in Mumbai for its Qubole Data Service analytics platform to help enterprise customers worldwide address a growing range of big-data analytics use cases, while complying with local laws and regulations.

The new India based service will address the compliance requirements of a rapidly developing customer base in the region and will be particularly relevant to enterprises with strong data residency and other security and privacy compliance requirements that specify that data be physically stored within the country’s territory. Some of Qubole’s marquee clients in India include Ola Cabs, Saavn, Hike Messenger and Capillary Technologies.

The AWS Mumbai region was launched last year and hosts a variety of AWS services including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), and Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS). Qubole’s Mumbai service region will allow customers to maintain their data on their AWS S3 storage and will rely on a customer’s IAM-based permissions to orchestrate compute resources on the customer’s behalf.

Qubole raised a $30 million Series C funding early last year and have been using the funds to fuel sales growth in PAAC, India North America and Europe apart from investing in expanding their partnerships with Amazon, Microsoft, Oracle, IBM and Google. This new service will help them provide a thrust to their business in India and work with a variety of data driven organizations.
“We are seeing tremendous interest for Qubole services in India”, says Suresh Ramaswamy, Senior Director, Qubole Web Services, “and we are the first and so far only independent big-data-as-a-service provider to leverage the Mumbai AWS region. This reinforces Qubole’s commitment to the Indian market and will help us capitalize on the vast market potential in the region.”

Qubole is committed to supporting our global customer base and had previously launched a Frankfurt based service for EU customers. The new Mumbai service delivers the same functionality and user experience available in North America and Europe including support for big data engines such as Hadoop 2, Spark, Presto, Airflow, Hive, and Pig.

The service is available today at and customers can sign up for free with a 15-day trial and Proof-of-Concept funding from AWS.
