Sunway Malls Introduces Unified Payment Terminal to Facilitate Multiple Cashless Payments
December 13, 2019 News

Sunway’s digitalisation vision to enable a more flexible experience for the shoppers and retailers helps them in innovating the all new Unified Payment Terminal (UPT), an all-in-one payment terminal that accepts different kind of cashless payment method such as e-wallets, debit and credit card transactions.

The Unified Payment Terminal will give the shoppers more options to choose from when making cashless payments which will lead to a more convenient, ideal shopping experience. This approach will be helpful for both retailers and shoppers.

By going cashless, shoppers do not need to carry much cash on hand, thus improving security measures. They will also need not worry about small change as they can pay the exact figure in cashless payments.

The introduction of the Unified Payment Terminal also eliminates the need for retailers to have multiple terminals to accept payments, which in return encourages lower terminal rental cost. As it allows tenants to accept multiple wallets, there will also be no limitation in accepting cashless payments.

As of December 2019, Sunway Malls has seen over 750 of its retailers utilise cashless payments, and the current e-wallet partners include Alipay, Boost, Grabpay, GoodKredit, Maybank QRPay, Mcash, NETS, Touch ‘n Go eWallet and WeChat Pay with more in the pipeline.

The introduction is also aligned with Sunway’s commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals by reducing the carbon footprint of all shoppers and the mall itself by encouraging a cashless lifestyle.

In order to encourage shoppers to start utilising this new feature, Sunway Pyramid is offering shoppers the chance to earn 10x Sunway Pals points when they use participating cashless payments (Boost, GrabPay, Maybank QRPay, and Touch ‘n Go eWallet) in Sunway Pyramid until 31 December this year. For shoppers that spend RM200 and above using NETS, they will receive RM15 worth of Sunway Pals points until the end of June 2020.

HC Chan, Chief Executive Officer of Sunway Malls & Theme Parks says, “The introduction of the Unified Payment Terminal is one of the many ways we want to improve our shoppers’ as well as retailers’ experience in Sunway Pyramid. We look forward to creating more convenient, efficient and safer environments for all who choose us as their preferred shopping destination now and in the future.”

“This collaboration is indeed timely, with more Singaporeans travelling to Malaysia in the festive seasons. Singapore shoppers can now enjoy a streamlined retail experience via NETS at Sunway malls. They won’t have to worry about having cash on hand, as cardholders using NETS ATM cards will enjoy competitive exchange rates and will not incur any foreign exchange fees for their purchases. This is part of NETS’ regional plans to make payments secure, seamless and convenient for our cardholders when they travel overseas. We hope that this will help Singaporeans shop with peace of mind knowing that there is a reliable, familiar and safe payment option even when they are overseas.” said David Woo, Group Chief Technology Officer, NETS.

Since October, Sunway Malls has rolled out this initiative in three other malls including Sunway Velocity Mall, Sunway Putra Mall, Sunway Carnival Mall and Sunway Citrine Hub.
