‘Why Big Data Matters’ Talk Of The Town At APU


A  Big Data talk organised by Big Community was held at the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation in Bukit Jalil here. The talk on ‘Why Big Data Matters’ drew in an auditorium filled room of students interested to find out more and meet industry experts.


Some of the students interviewed, were aware of the impact Big Data is making in the industry. A few friends from the Data Base course who were in attendance here, say they believe that currently there are job opportunities available for them in this industry and if the chance came up, they would be interested to become Data Scientists.


Representative from the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation, Simran Kaur, was on hand to brief the students on the opportunities in further detail while disseminating advice on what the ‘Sexiest Job of the 21st Century’ entails.

“As often expressed by our own Data Scientist at our office, they are like a Unicorn. Very hard to come by. A data scientsts job is one of the toughest jobs in the world and at the same time, the pay is also the highest in the world. In order to be part of this elite group, you will need to be highly skilled and trained,” she shared.


CJ Lau of Fusionex was also on hand to share his words of wisdom to the students.

“Creativity isn’t easy to achieve. It comes with hard work. There is no such thing as useless knowledge in this age of data,” he said as he explained to them the importance of due diligence.
